With African influencers taking over the fashion world, Africa is seriously making its mark in the fashion industry. Now is the perfect time to embrace African inspired fashion. Discover the latest trends here, and get ready to plan your wardrobe updates for the season ahead…
The Jumpsuit
Set to be huge this spring/summer, the jumpsuit is having a revival. 2017 saw great demand for the figure hugging jumpsuit, but this year it’s all about creating balance. Wide leg jumpsuits will be the go-to in 2018, with a fitted body to balance out the look.
Wear our powder blue wide leg jumpsuit now with a cropped jacket layered up, or wear for work with heels and a cropped blazer. This look is super versatile – simply ditch the jacket come summer and swap the heels for flat sandals for an effortlessly stylish look.
If a bright and bold print is more your thing, try our Halterneck Wax Wax African Print Jumpsuit. With its bright and playful print and wide leg cut, this jumpsuit is bang on trend for the season ahead. Make a real impact with contrasting accessories, such as an orange clutch and heels, or dial the look down with nude tones instead.
The jumpsuit is so versatile yet looks ultra stylish, which is one of the reasons it’s having a revival. Fashionistas worldwide have discovered just how easy it is to style up this one-piece, and how well it works from morning to night.

The Printed Dress
Pretty tea dresses always come into fashion around this time of year – they’re summery, stylish, comfortable and practical – so it’s no surprise that the summer dress is back for 2018.
The traditional tea dress has an update for 2018 though, with ‘50’s silhouettes taking over from the 1930s tea shape. With a high neckline, fitted at the waist and a flared skirt, the ‘50’s shaped dress is really flattering. Taking the update further, these dresses were seen on the catwalk in bold prints and colours, influenced by African style.
A firm favourite at Sika’a HQ is our printed fit and flare dress. The unique pattern and cut makes this dress standout, while the dialed back tones and pretty mustard and lilac make it soft and ultra feminine. Another versatile piece to have in your wardrobe – wear this dress for a summer wedding or party, to work or on a day date. This style can be dressed up or down and will make a great go-to piece in your wardrobe.
For a similar ‘50s inspired style try Sleeveless Floral Detail African Print Dress. With a fit and flare shape, this maxi dress is ideal for spring/summer weddings and parties. The bold red print is daring yet pretty and feminine, making this the ideal standout dress for a special occasion this season.
The Fitted Dress
Bodycon has been big over the last decade, but this season it’s being replaced by a more sophisticated fitted style. Bodycon was worn most by the super confident and daring, but this style is perfect for all. With little in the way of excess material, the fitted dress skims the body in a super flattering way.
We absolutely adore our Long Sleeve Neck-Tie Floral African Print Dress. In a bold yellow print, it’s ideal for spring/summer ‘18. Wear with simple black heels for work, pretty sandals for a party or event, and flat sandals for a day spent shopping or out for lunch with your friends. Bold yellow African inspired prints are going to be huge this summer, so get ahead of the rest by inviting in this flattering and stylish dress now.

Bright Colours
This is the season of colour confidence. If you love to wear bright and bold colours, you will be fully embracing the styles set to land for spring/summer ‘18. Fashion designers have not shied away from the extreme this season. At Sika’a we embrace bold prints and colours all year round, so this is nothing new to us, but we are excited to see the industry making the most of what colour and fabric printing has to offer.
According to the Panatone colour chart, it’s all about brights this season. Cherry tomato, cornflower blue, bright yellow, violet, pink lavender, teal, coral and lime are all influencing the fashion industry this season.
Here you will see three of our favourite styles for the season ahead. Our teal jumpsuit is set to be a sellout and will be landing soon. We adore the cut of this jumpsuit, with the pulled in waist, cut out detail and fitted top, balanced perfectly with the fuller leg, but most of all we love the vibrant colour, which is sure to turn heads as you walk down the street.
It’s clear to see there are a few standout trends for the season ahead, with the biggest trends being bright colours and bold prints. At Sika’a we always embrace the bright and bold, drawing our inspiration from African fashion, using traditional prints and fabrics and giving them a modern and on-trend update.
